I was in the appliance business and acquired a North Bend customer in 1973 that had as her daily driver a yellow 1950 Chevrolet Convertible. Her husband owned a gas station in Fall City and had maintained the car very well. They bought the car used in San Diego when they were first married and he was in the Navy. They now had two boys and she hauled the kids around in the '50. They had painted the car 1955 Corvette yellow and she reupholstered the interior herself in black Naugahyde.
Every time I went to their house on a service call I asked her if she would sell the car. Her answer was always the same. She was keeping it for her boys. Unfortunately she became very ill and passed away in about 1980. I watched as the car sat in the carport deteriorating as the boys never did use it. Finally the husband forgot to put in antifreeze and the rebuilt engine cracked the full length of the block. When I would see the husband I kept asking about the car and kept getting the same answer.
