Greetings, The Annual Awards Banquet is now in the history books, but I can still imagine the taste of that wonderful carrot cake. It was definitely a pleasurable and enjoyable evening. Thanks again to George Kowats and John Strampher for arranging the banquet facilities, menu, and raffle items. Good Chevrolet donated two jackets and a few hats. I was able to purchase discounted items from Lee Johnson's Chevrolet and they donated several hats, many calendars and numerous trailer hitch receptacles covers. Additionally, join me in expressing appreciation to Jim Farris for constructing the past Directors Plaque of Appreciation. He has willingly been doing this since 1979. I would also like to recognize the efforts and convey thanks to Bill Damm for designing and creating the Award Certificates. Lastly, I am relieved members liked the video clips that were shown. The one with the guy who answered someone else's cell phone generated an extended roar of laughter.
I quickly found out twice in January how important timely communication is to our club. That was evident while as I was on my cell phone in Albertsons' parking lot talking to Jim Farris about how we were going to call the board members to postpone the board meeting due to icy road conditions near my home. I barely caught Al Howe and Sallie Comstock as they were about to head out the door. But wait, what about the rest of the membership? No problem, another call to Diane Haddock and she would relay a message to Dave to send a broadcast email to members.
Weather again caused the closure of the school and the need to cancel the January General Meeting. So, my recommendation is for all of us to check our emails before any club event, tour or meeting for any changes. When uncertain if an event has been changed or cancelled, call another member to find out if there were any known recent changes.
At the Area III meeting in Chehalis, all regions were requested to send a list in of members who are qualified and willing to judge at NW Meets. Be on the lookout for an online poll. If you have never judged before, but are interested, let us know. Also, there are other positions needed in the judging process besides judging. A simple database will be developed to store members who can judge certain year vehicles. This will make it a great deal easier for the hosting region to fulfill judging needs at future NW Meets.
Dave and Diane Haddock have put together a variety of activities for 2008. Also, we have a list of programs for 2008. Sure is nice to have a plan for the whole year completed this early. Now let's get involved and participate in the scheduled events and programs. Page 7 outlines the schedule for the year, so we can mark dates of interest on our calendar.
Hopefully, we can have the February General Meeting without any disruption from the weather. Keep in mind, it indeed is challenging, rewarding and a privilege to be a contributing member of our club. Regards-----Chevy Addict--Jim Martoza
