BRINGING THE '26 TOURING HOME
Part two of Bob Stamnes '26 story begun in the January issue

Starting from home before the birds sang, I rented a flat bed trailer with a continuous bottom and purchased a large tarp that the car could be wrapped in to keep the pieces together, just as recommended by my friend Don in Bellingham, I proceeded north alone to pick up the car.  When I arrived at the farm, I realized the mechanism for pulling the car onto the trailer had torn off on the way, making it unusable.  Fortunately, Marcy's uncle had pumped up the tires (yes they held air) and was there to assist in loading, using the skills he learned as a logger.   An hour later, my baby and I were on the road home to Seattle.  I kept an eye in my rear view mirror, expecting at any minute that a part might come off.  When I arrived home, I looked over my prize possession and found the fender hanging loose and the running board just sitting unattached on the support brackets------ Was I Ever Lucky!!   Then I began to wonder how many things I had lost along the way.  You have to understand that I followed Don's suggestion to get a trailer with a continuous bottom, but I made the mistake of not following his suggestion to wrap the entire car in a large tarp.  This could have been a fatal mistake.  I was just too anxious to get the car home.  Fortunately, to my knowledge, I lost nothing off the car, but it was very lucky as the running board was absolutely loose laying on the supports.  My next goal would be to have the car in the syttende Mai parade and celebration in Ballard.
