February 2009 Tappet Clatter

Director's Corner
"From The Drivers Seat"

By Al Howe

We had an overwhelming turnout at the Awards and Installation Banquet Saturday night; I believe we had sixty-eight Chevy Lovers attending. George Kowats, John Strampher and Jim Martoza did an excellent job organizing the banquet again. We enjoyed lots of visiting, eating and presentation of awards.
I thought the new look of the activity awards was great.
The Director's award went to Jim Farris, a very deserving award indeed. Then we had some fun with Lee Folsom; so many wonderful comments were made for a most helpful person. Jim and Lee are so knowledgeable and always ready to lend a helping hand; we are lucky to have them in our club.
Donna Onat handed out those beautiful new rosters that Jim Martoza worked so hard on. They look great - good job! Rod Schein made his well done DVD available that we all look forward to each year.
What a nice surprise it was to hear from George and Ana Haley by cell phone while we were enjoying ourselves; George is recuperating well. Thanks for thinking of us, George and Ana.
Although Jim Martoza is moving to New York, he will still be a member of our club, and has volunteered to keep doing our website and other computer work. I had the pleasure of presenting Jim and Roberta with a gift of three books about New York from the membership as a going-away gift. And Bill Damm presented them with a big thank-you card with a commemorative poem written by Bill and signed by the members present.
I have been promoted to Director and Dave Haddock has accepted the nomination for Assistant Director. I look forward to working with all of you this year. I will need all the help I can get and many of you have already said you are willing to lend a helping hand. Thank you very much.
We have some challenges ahead of us, one being preparing for the 2010 Northwest Meet that we are hosting. However I believe George Kowats is an excellent person to be in charge and we will have a most successful Meet. Remember we will need more helping hands so if you haven't had an opportunity to volunteer yet, there is still time. We will have an update at the next general meeting in February.
Matt Dickinson is doing a great job planning activities for the year and I know we will have a good turnout as we always do. This is really what we love, to drive the old car and talk cars.
Keep your tires on the pavement and a cool head while driving.
